Have you ever had fear or lack of confidence hold you back from doing something you really wanted to do? Chantelle Anderson, Founder of Visible Confidence, former WNBA professional athlete and TEDX speaker, shares how “we all start out confident…and then something happens and we are taught to be less confident”. Chantelle tells her personal story and one of the best answers to “what makes you qualified to do this job” when she changed careers from sports to medical device sales for Stryker. 5 Actions to Boost Your Confidence
Make a Fear Resume. “Every time you were afraid to do something and did it anyway, write it down and prove it to yourself that you were able to do it any way”. This is your personal document on selling yourself that you can do things that scare you.
Banish fear with visualization. Think about a moment when you were successful and visualize how you felt afterwards. Chantelle says when she has any fear she thinks about her experience jumping out of a plane.
Respond to a difficult question using a personal story. The best way to show someone you can do something is to share a story. Chantelle tapped into her past and demonstrated during two job interviews why she was qualified and she received job offers for both, by answering the question “why are you qualified” in a bold way. “You have everything you need to get everything you need.” CHANTELLE ANDERSON
Confidence is a skill. Everyone has doubts and questions themselves and the key is not to spend too much time thinking about it. It takes practice to build resiliency to bounce back when there is a setback. Refer to your fear or courage resume.
Increase confidence by using this technique -Ask Listen ACT. Ask yourself a question about confidence (you can get Chantelle’s 7 questions here), listen to the answers and then take action. Evaluate where you are, how confident you are, what areas you are lacking confidence and then take action.
If you think you don’t need to build confidence, think again. There is a cost to feeling afraid, and it isn’t only monetary or career advancement. There is a cost to relationships, personal well-being and so much more. Take action, check out Chantelle’s program and start building confidence today!
